IN MEMORIAL - JOSEPH D. FOY, SR.

IN MEMORIAL TO OUR FRIEND, BELIEVER AND SUPPORTER

JOSEPH D. FOY, SR.

The Burlington Township Fire Department would like to take this time to acknowledge an important and beloved friend to our organization, Joseph D. Foy, Sr.  For many years, Joe believed in and supported the fire department. He always attended dedications, testimonial dinners, apparatus housings and parades.

Joe appointed many of our Fire Chiefs and presented them with their Chief's gear when they took their Oath of Office.  He believed in the purpose to the fire department and acknowledged the time and dedication each firefighter must give to support the community to keep them safe; the same community that he took responsibility for as Mayor.  He acknowledged our firefighters by presenting us with a Resolution in 1988 for the services provided during a ruptured underground fuel pipeline, a situation of a most serious condition for the residents of Burlington Township.

Joe showed his belief in us in many ways; not only by his words of praise at official functions, but by his physical presence at the Annual New Jersey State Firemen's Convention in Wildwood, NJ. His presence gave our members pride in knowing that their Mayor was there to support their aspirations in becoming the best in the State of New Jersey, which we did in 2005, a feat not easily attainable. It was at times like these that we truly understood he was more than a Mayor to us,  he was our friend.

He was there over many years of change from our beginnings with the Township Council and to our transition to a Fire District in 1990. In 2006, we had the distinct pleasure of making him an Honorary Member of the Burlington Township Fire Department, of which he is the only person to hold this title. He supported us through our good times while progressing into the future, and even during our bad times when we lost great firefighters within our membership.

It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to such a caring and wonderful person as Joe Foy and only wish that we will be able to emulate ourselves in his shadow.  He will be greatly remembered and deeply missed.
